As a homeowner, your furniture says a lot to others about your home – the condition in which you keep it, how you care for it, etc. And, if you have expensive or semi-expensive furniture, you certainly want it to look its best all the time, for a long time. And, even if you have cheaper, used furniture, you can take care of it so it will last longer and look good too.

Believe it or not, taking great care of your furniture by cleaning it will help to extend its longevity. We are here to help with that!

So, what can you do to ensure your upholstery remains in great condition – be it the living room, bedroom or dining room furniture?

What can you do – besides a deep clean of your upholstery – to keep it looking its best at all times and increasing its longevity?

  1. Don’t place your furniture in direct sunlight. The sun can fade furniture quickly and leave an uneven wear look on it.

  2. Use a vacuum cleaner on your upholstery often. This even applies to furniture that’s rarely used. Dirt is abrasive and dust particles will cause wear on the furniture fabric. If you use your living room and other upholstered furniture often, be sure to rotate the cushions and other materials often and vacuum them at least once a week.

  3. Use a damp rag and non-abrasive cleaning solutions to eliminate the buildup of body oil. Use this on the headrests, arms and other areas to get rid of the excess oil.

  4. Never allow your pets onto the furniture, and ask that other family members and friends do not encourage them on it as well.

  5. Do not put newspapers or other magazines directly on upholstery, as the ink will build up, making it difficult to get off.

  6. Do not use dark-colored sheets, blankets or other fabrics to cover the furniture. These dyes can rub or bleed into your furniture fabric, ruining it.

  7. Do not use inks, dyes, paints or fingernail polish around the fabric. The truth is, accidents will happen and these substances can ruin the material.

  8. Do not take cushion covers off to wash in a machine or for dry cleaning. In many cases, the colors can fade and won’t look uniform with the rest of the fabric.

With the assistance of a reputable professional furniture and upholstery cleaning service, you can keep dirt from destroying the beauty of your furniture. Whenever you’re ready to clean your carpets, consider getting the upholstery done at the same time.
